Cannes Lions announced on Thursday 15th the distribution of the funds collected with Glass Lion: the Lion for Change to diverse organizations that promote gender equality worldwide. This award celebrates campaigns that break with gender and inequality stereotypes. The pieces registered in 2016 came from 38 countries and they all challenged inequality and stereotypes. The funds from the 155 tickets to the awards ceremony will be distributed among ten associations that are fighting for equality: UN Women, Equality Now, Pro Mujer, Global Fund for Women, Gender and Development Network, Geena Davis Institute, Men Engage, Women for Women, Clinton Foundation, and the UN Women National Committee UK. During the festival, people chose their favorite organizations to make the donation. Pro Mujer is committed with empowering women in Latin America. “The generous contribution of the Cannes Lions participants will provide essential health services, entertainment and support to women to free them from the cycle of poverty” stated Lynne Patterson, Co-Founder at Pro Mujer. “When we launched the Glass Lion, we were clear that all the money stemming from the tickets would go to charities. Thanks to all the attendees to Cannes Lions. We hope the Glass Lion one day focuses on other problems in society, that the day will come when an award like this isn’t necessary to highlight the gender unbalance that exists in the world” stated Jose Papa, General Director at Lions Festivals.
