The Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame announced that the recipient of its annual Governors Award is ad agency Lopez Negrete Communications. The award is presented to the advertising agency that has distinguished itself through work produced on behalf of clients, that have contributed to the betterment of advertising and that has made volunteer efforts outside the workplace. The acknowledgement will be presented at the ceremonial Hall of Fame induction dinner, to be held in the Doubletree Hotel in Dallas, Texas on June 25, 2016. The agency based in Houston, Texas, was founded in 1985 by Alex López Negrete and his wife, Cathy. Since then they have been working in a sustained effort, turning them into the largest Hispanic advertising firm in the country. The agency has created advertising campaigns for numerous national brands, including Walmart, Bank of America, Samsung, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, NBC Universal Pictures, the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, Frontier Communications, Verizon Wireless, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, the Houston Astros, and the Houston Rockets. In a 2007 Billboard Magazine article, Lopez Negrete was described as the “top Latin ad agency”; the company’s CEO, Alex López Negrete, was recently honored by the government of Mexico with the Ohtli Award, the highest honor bestowed upon civilians of Mexican or Latino descent living abroad, for his commitment to and support of the Mexican-American and Latino communities in the U.S.
