Ben Silbermann from Pinterest: Our users think advertising in the platform adds to their experience

Ben Silbermann, CEO and cofundador of Pinterest, and Jessi Hempel, senior writer at Wired, during the talks of the IAB MIXX 2015, dived deep into Pinterest’s advertising innovations and the platform’s growth in the last five years.”Pinterest is a place where people plan their future and we are trying to offer them a very simple and visual tool so they can achieve that” commented Silbermann. “Pinterest’s philosophy regarding ads says they have to be transparent, relevant and be of good taste. Advertisers also look for people who want to include their products in the future and I think that until now, they don’t feel that ads take away from their experience”.Pinterest is more personal than a social network. Silbermann explained that they didn’t design a platform for social exhibition. “In the last year we´ve had a lot of changes, because we are aiming for all the information we have to allow you to carry out the projects we propose. We´ve included a purchase button so people can get what they see on their profile more easily” he added.”Most of our users are women, especially abroad where our audience is growing rapidly. Outside the US, the use has been similar up to now, but we aim to know the subtleties of each country´s tastes and adapt our content” he said. “Until now, it is in 30 languages and I think as more people use it we will be able to improve our platform”.
