eMarketer estimates that 88% of Internet users aged 18 to 24 in the US will use Facebook this year, as well as 78.6% in the 25 to 34 year old range.According to a study carried out by The Media Project Insight for the American Press Institute and NORC in the University of Chicago, 57% of the millennial generation entered Facebook at least once a day to obtain news and information. Thirty percent entered several times a day, while 14% did it constantly. In spite of the fact that they use Facebook for news, the millennial generation does not consider this a major reason to start a session. Only 47% of those surveyed assured this was the main reason to access the site. However, once they do start their session, news consumption is high. Seven out of 10 people surveyed assured they regularly read stories and news headlines posted by other people in Facebook. As if this were not enough, journalists are making themselves known in the social network. Among the journalists consulted by Cision, three fourths use Facebook for commercialization and advertising, and almost eight out of ten use Twitter for the same purpose. The personal aspect is not left aside, since for journalists it is also important because two thirds use Twitter or Facebook to build relations.
