Google buys the streaming music service Songza

Google continues building its music portfolio with the acquisition of Songza an online music service that lets users select playlists depending on their taste and location.Through a message on its website, Google has confirmed the purchase of Songza, saying: “We are really excited to welcome Songza. “They have built a great service that provides user ideal reproduction lists for the right moments.’’ So far, they have no immediate plans to change Songza, so that the application will continue to function as usual.Similarly, Songza said about the acquisition: “We are delighted to announce that we have become part of Google. We cannot think of a better company to join us in our quest for the perfect soundtrack for your day. Currently, there are no changes in Songza.”According to statistics published by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), revenue from streaming music for $ 7billion contributed to the music industry in the U.S. last year.A report published in March, states that the subscription service revenues, like Songza, were $ 1.4 billion, up 39% over 2012.”Streaming services have grown rapidly in recent years, contributing with 21% of the total industry revenue in 2013, compared to only 3% in 2007,” the report said.
