Botafogo counter-attacks racism with inverted stripes on their shirts

Patricia Molina| 16 de junio de 2014

Botafogo cambió el orden de las rayas en sus camisetas como lucha contra el racismo

For quite a while, football has declared a battle against racism, one of the most serious social problems in the world. Therefore, one of the most famous teams in Brazil, Botafogo, a club that for 100 years wears black and white, got a good way to make their fans aware of this problem. The team changed the order of the black and white stripes on their shirts and went to play, but no one noticed. Then the players gathered for a photo and surprised everyone with a strip showing the following message: If you do not you realize that the shirt stripes are reversed, it is because the color does not make the slightest difference #somosumsó (we are only one).Another gesture that Botafogo had for their struggle against racism was with player Tinga with whom he was given a traditional T-shirt with the inverted pattern that uses Fogao. The Raposa’s player thanked the noble gesture of the Rio de Janeiro’s teams on Twitter: “Congrats Botafogo #ChutandoOPreconceito for being the greatest club it has always been.”The action, whose aim was to raise public awareness about this serious problem and also help eradicate it, was the third most discussed topic during the game and even shared by the rival fans. The agency Africa made a video directed by Sergio Gordilho that sums up part of Botafogo’s fighting.
