Latinos tienen poca representación en películas de EE UU
The USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism found in a study that of the 100 top movies of 2012, only 4% of the characters spoke Spanish. In fact they were the group least represented in films.The research also showed that their characters tend to be stereotypes. Close to 40% of Hispanic women with roles in 2012 movies were represented in sensual garb or half-naked, compared with 30% of white or black women. Hispanic men, on the other hand, tended to play domestic characters. Among male roles, 83% were seen as the paterfamilias.Here are some key responses found in the report on how young Latinos feel about all this:Theyre optimistic about the future and showbiz is an area where they expect to make the greatest progress. While only 10% believe that bicultural Latinos are represented in a positive way on television, the same proportion thinks they are extremely well represented in advertising.Others are irritated by their representation in showbiz content. Seventy-five percent of respondents said they would watch a program more if it had a Latino in the cast or if it featured a story about Latinos in the United States.Finally, some hope for greater diversity in marketing and advertising content. Seventy percent prefer a commercial with actors from different demographic segments. A similar proportion said it doesnt matter to them who the actors are, as long as its a good commercial.
