Ford agudiza su ventaja competitiva con nuevas herramientas ecológicas

Ford’s Research and Innovation Center doesn’t directly make cars but is making something equally important: complex mathematical models to help the company sharpen its competitive advantage while greening its environmental impact.“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Ford now ranks among the greenest brands in the world” said John Viera, global director of sustainability and vehicle environmental matters. “The company’s investments in the field of big data analytics have continually increased during the last 15 years”.A group of experts made up of scientists, mathematicians, computer modelers and other researchers are employing the latest in analytics and big data to find ways to minimize Ford’s eco-impact while boosting business by identifying potential risks and opportunities. Some achievements show where the group is going: Increased fuel economy and a scientific model for projecting CO2 emissions; making the case for a powertrain spectrum ranging from EcoBoost motors, hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies, flex-fuel, all-electric, biodiesel, CNG and LPG; and sophisticated mathematical models that allow the construction of an “eco-conscious and cost-effective” global technology roadmap, leading to such environmentally friendly products as the Ford Auto Start-Stop. Ford continues to expand its use of large volumes of data to achieve more and better technologies and methodologies that have led to the likes of the plug-in hybrid Ford Fusion Energi, a vehicle that generates around 25 gigabytes of data per hour that can be used to further improve fuel economy and emission reductions. But why stop there? Ford researchers are already experimenting with vehicles that will generate 10 times that amount – 250 gigabytes of data per hour!
