A recent study showed that over 3 million cybernauts, whose first language is Spanish and who represent 18 percent of all Internet users, watch television online, generally through console TVs and smart televisions.Research published by Interactive Advertising in Spain says that among the categories most watched on televisions connected to the Internet are movies, series and sports. However, viewers frequently have alternative uses for their online TVs like listening to music or the radio, playing videogames and accessing social networks. The study also shows that 19 percent of those viewers have paid to see content online.Some 18 percent of users who connect televisions with the Internet are largely young men with a college education. Around 10 million users know about the possibility of connecting their TVs to the Web, but only 3 million have done so. Of those 10 million, 41 percent say they have technological barriers and 24 percent are uninterested.Penetration of smart TVs has reached 21 percent in Spain, and reports indicate that only 36 percent of those who have smart TVs use them. According to the study, users access their content on an average of 4.4 different devices like laptops, PCs, smartphones and televisions.
