A survey taken last July by the Pew Research Center shows that the percentage of adult American users who post videos online has doubled over the past four years, from 14 percent in 2009 to 31 percent today. For their part, young cybernauts are the ones who post the most videos online. It is estimated that of these uploaders, 41 percent are young people between ages 18-29, while 38 percent are users between 30-49 years of age.Adults who use the Internet and live in homes with higher incomes $75,000 or more per year are also more likely to post and share videos online than lower-income households with an annual income of less than US$50,000.Video websites like YouTube have been the chief drivers of the growing percentage of Internet-using adults who post, watch and download videos. At the same time, comic and educational videos remain high on the list for most viewers, though musical videos showed greater audience growth between 2009 and 2013, climbing from 32 percent to 50 percent. The growing popularity of social media and the proliferation of digital platforms have helped spur the online video culture even more.
