A Chitka Insights study reveals that websites listed on the first page of a Google search result generate 91.5 percent of all search traffic.The report, based on an analysis of Google search traffic in the United States and Canada, shows that search volume shrinks between the last place on the first page and the first place on the second page. For example, the 10th position receives 2.4 percent of the search traffic, while the 11th position receives only 1 percent, a drop of 140 percent.The first position in the results of a Google search receives 33 percent of search traffic for a key word or a phrase, compared with 18 percent for the second position. Also demonstrated was that the first place on any page gets more traffic that the second position, and so on down the line.Search traffic declines 27 percent from the first position to the second position on page two, and drops 11.3 percent and 5.4 percent from the first position to the second position on pages three and four, respectively.
